ALS Awareness Month

Today marks the first day of *ALS Awareness month.  It's something I didn't know a whole lot about before I met Anita of Sweet Hope Cookies.  She is an amazing, funny, and generous cookier who donates 100%... that would be ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of her proceeds to the ALS association to find a way to treat and cure this fatal disease.  I know it's hard to wrap your head around such awesomeness!  When you order from Sweet Hope Cookies you get beautiful and delicious (delicious is a major understatement!) cookies AND all of the proceeds benefit a wonderful cause.

*ALS stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

Anita's brother passed away from this disease one year ago.  In her own words she was inspired to start Sweet Hope Cookies:
  • To honor my brother Randy by continuing his legacy of compassion, generosity and caring      toward others living with ALS.
  • To advance awareness and knowledge about ALS.
  •  To provide support to those living with ALS and to advance medical research so that one day a cure for this relentless and merciless disease will be found. This is why I donate the materials and time so that 100% of your donation goes directly to the ALS Association.
This day also marks what would have been Randy's 64th birthday.  Anita has posted a 13 day tribute to her brother and her memories give us a glimpse of what is lost every day for 15 families as that is how many people die of ALS in this country every day.

My hope is that you will read Randy's story.  It is in turn hilarious and touching and it is all told through my favorite medium: COOKIES!  I've gained a new awareness of ALS through "meeting" Randy and I will forever be changed by it.  I hope you will too.  Happy birthday Randy!

What you can do:

I had the honor of creating this Randy cookie for Anita that was featured today on his birthday and final tribute post.
