Polaroid Vintage Love... Cookies

 You know that moment when inspiration hits you?  Your eyes widen, the old bulb burns brighter, the chorus of Hallelujah bursts forth (I sing a lot while I'm baking).  That was how this polaroid cookie idea was for me.  It just hit me and I knew I HAD to make these cookies.  The only problem was I didn't have time to play and indulge in my cookie fantasy, so it marinated:  I visualized them, I dreamt about them for weeks; this idea just wouldn't let go!  So, finally I had some time last night and the idea that wouldn't die came to life.

This was a completely selfish project as my children went hungry last night while I painted my pictures, until Mr. John saw I had that glassy-eyed, paintbrush wielding look that told him food would not be forthcoming, and grabbed some Taco Bell (he is such a gem!)  I think I might have even hissed at him?

So I'm glad to say, I am no longer a woman posessed.  I got my idea down on cookie.  The Hallelujah chorus in my head has quieted... for now.

Chalk Art

It's that time of year again when I lose all my fingerprints.  It must be autumn!  Every September the kids and I look forward to the Arte de Tiza chalk festival downtown.  The art association hands out bags of chalk and we pull up a square of sidewalk and get to work.

My kids always have a blast getting filthy and usually drawing as much on themselves as they do on the sidewalk.  This year, my 10 year old (Bailey) won FIRST place in the elementary school division!  I am so proud of her.  Here are our squares:

Hodge Podge of Un-Blogged

I think I just invented a new tongue-twister with that title!  I thought I would feature some cookies I've made recently but haven't blogged about.  These first two were made for the lovely Lillie who was having a week stay with her grandgirls complete with girly crafts and tea parties.  How fun is that?  She wanted these particular cookies for the tea party because she's always called one of her grandgirls "Sunshine" and one "Cupcake".  Too cute for words!

These cookies were for the ever-so-awesome Evelyn and her daughter for thanking the buyers of her 4-H sheep this year at the fair.  Sure, a note is always nice, but cookies say it way better than words... and then cookies WITH the words on them?  Best of both worlds!

These cookies were for the beautemous Betsy (mother to triplet, blonde, bouncing, baby boys! oh, and did I mention the older twins?!)  Betsy is one of the sweetest people I know and she wanted a special gift to give her neighbor for her birthday.  I had a lot of fun making these burgundy birthday bites!

So, that's what's I've been up to lately.  I have some fun things coming up and I'm also running in a relay next weekend with my friend Cari.  It's the Red Rock Relay which is an 187 mile, 2 day running adventure.  I've never done anything like this and I can't tell if I'm more excited or nervous for it.  I guess I should start running?  Just kidding.  I run every day, but I am worried about the elevation change.  It's going to be crazy!
